Automatically Sync Sharepoint Site Library using Intune

You can manually sync a SharePoint Teams site document library to your Windows 10 or Windows 11 device by accessing the SharePoint Teams site document library and clicking the Sync button.

However, if there is a SharePoint document library used by everyone in that department or organization and you don’t want each user to go to that SharePoint document library and click the Sync button, you can create a Device Configuration Profile in Intune to sync it automatically.

Below are Important considerations before proceeding with the configuration steps:

  • OneDrive Files On-Demand Must be enabled.
  • This applies only to users on computers running Windows 10 (1709) Fall Creators Update or later.
  • Do not enable this setting for the same library to more than 1,000 devices.
  • To ensure a good sync experience, avoid enabling this feature on large library sets.

Step 1 – Copy Library ID of the Sharepoint Site

  1. Open Sharepoint site document library.
  2. Click on Documents on the left-hand side and then Click on the Sync button.

Step 2 – Create Device Configuration Profile

Once you’ve copied the Library ID of the SharePoint document library you want to sync via Intune, you need to create a Device Configuration profile on the Intune admin center. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Intune admin center.
  2. Go to Devices -> Configuration Profiles -> Click on Create profile.
  3. Platform -> Windows 10 and later.
  4. Profile Type -> Templates
  5. Select Administrative Templates from the list and click Create.

Basics Tab

Provide the Name and Description of the Policy. For Example:

  • Name: Onedrive Auto Sync Sharepoint Teams Library
  • Description: Provide a useful description

Configuration Settings Tab

  • Click on User Configuration > Click on the OneDrive folder.
  • Search for Configure team site libraries to sync automatically Policy.
  • Select Enable
  • Provide the Name of the Library and in Value paste the Library ID copied earlier.
  • Click OK.

Scope Tab

Leave Default.

Assignments Tab

Assign this profile to an Entra security group containing users or devices. If you add users to the group, then the profile will get applied even if a user changes their device. But if you want to apply this profile to specific devices only then target this profile to an Entra security group containing devices only.

Sync Intune Policies

The device check-in process might not begin immediately. If you’re testing this policy on a test device, you can manually kickstart the Intune sync either from the device itself or remotely through the Intune admin center.

Alternatively, you can use PowerShell to force the Intune sync on Windows devices. Another way to trigger the Intune device check-in process is by restarting the device.

It may take some time to sync the SharePoint Teams site library. In my case, I had to leave it over the weekend to get the libraries synced on the PC. For more information, please refer to the following Microsoft TechCommunity forum link about this issue:
